It is the first installment in The Legend of Zelda series for a handheld game console. the protagonist, Link, begins the game stranded on Koholint Island, a place guarded by a whale-like deity called the Wind Fish. This was my first Zelda game, I played it so much on my original black and white Game boy that I can still remember everything about it. The original one also had a fun glitch where if you selected your map as you went to the next screen, you could warp to the other side of the next screen. You could do all sorts of game breaking warps and go everywhere, getting items and going places way earlier than you were supposed to. I probably spent even more time messing with that glitch than playing the game itself. Check out the screen warp glitch on YouTube. Sadly it doesn’t work in the color version.
